A power trendline in the stock market is more or less a set of trendlines that follow the highs and lows of the advancing stock or index after a power trend is initiated. Once the power trend is confirmed, you can establish the lows of the new trend and the highs of the new trend. After some time, the market will naturally undulate, usually defining the highs and lows of a trend. The power trend turns off when the 21-day moving average crosses below the 50-day moving average, and the index closes down for the day. A low count (4 and below) shows that the market is getting hit with institutional selling which is causing the market to fall below key technical levels like the 21-day and 50-day moving averages.

Nearly half (49 percent) of industrial players place technical expertise in their top three purchasing criteria, while 38 percent also look at the track record and experience of suppliers as a demonstration of their technical capabilities. The fact that only 17 percent of customers would go to their energy audit provider for an energy efficiency project, even in instances where the auditor provides these services, highlights the need for project execution experience. The German B2B energy supply and services market is growing but remains underserved as the full impact of regulatory changes has yet to take effect.

Demand for new business models and financing alternatives

The European B2B energy efficiency value pool, meanwhile, is expected to double from €1.9 billion in 2024 to €3.8 billion by 2035. This would represent approximately 45 percent of the future value pools in 2035 and the bulk of the on-site value pools.

Power Trends and How to Spot Them on a Chart

Energy efficiency seeks to achieve the same output with less energy, usually by replacing old, inefficient equipment, enabled in part by the electrification of various processes. The most common equipment categories include the replacement of industrial heating equipment, building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, lighting, refrigeration, and water cooling. The largest electricity grid in the US, managed by PJM (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland) Interconnection, is set to see a significant increase in electricity demand driven by the AI boom.

Among his many accomplishments, Webster has also determined the rules for power trends. A high count (5, 6, or 7) shows the market is in a strong uptrend that is trending above its moving averages and has usually shown very little institutional selling. The concept of a power trend was defined by Investor’s Business Daily, more specifically, their Market School course designed to mimic the trading style of IBD’s Founder, William O’Neil.
